Villa 3 comprises three buildings – an
open-sided living and dining pavilion, an elevated relaxation
pavilion and a third building that houses two bedrooms, each
with an en-suite garden bathroom.
The villa is entered via a set of double
antique doors leading from a small courtyard. Here, two
Balinese statues rest in a serene lotus pond, with three
trickling water spouts.
The garden of the villa is walled on three
sides and dominated by a raised, open-sided living and dining
pavilion. This raised pavilion features a soaring ‘alang
alang’ thatched roof supported by coconut wood pillars above a
cream terrazzo floor. Ceiling fans and gentle breezes keep
this area cool, while the contemporary teak furniture, dining
tables and cushioned sofas make it very comfortable. The
pavilion also integrates an open-plan kitchenette, for the use
of the guests on those occasions when they might not require
waiter/waitress service from the main Tamu Seseh
service-kitchen. The kitchenette is located behind a terrazzo
bar, lined with high cushioned stools and complete with a gas
hob, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, crockery and cutlery.
Inside the fitted cupboards, guests will also find a stereo
CD/cassette player.
In the garden, four sun loungers and two
umbrellas are situated on a raised plinth beside a 12 x 4
meter infinity edge swimming pool, which appears to almost
overflow into rice fields that are unbroken by borders or
fences. A barbeque is provided for the guests, and terracotta
statues add to the character of the magnificent setting.
A flight of steps leads up to the top storey
of the elevated ‘balé’ relaxation pavilion; the structure is
open on two sides next to a towering holy fig tree. Complete
with a Palimanan stone floor and encompassed by a wooden
balustrade with a built in cushioned sofa, this enchanting
relaxation pavilion literally overhangs the rice fields.
Guests will be treated to a magnificent view of rural Bali,
through the coconut groves to the crashing white surf of the
Indian Ocean. The upper storey of the balé is furnished with a
table and a satellite TV/DVD cabinet. A telephone is provided
so that guests can order food and drinks without having to
move. There is additional poolside seating on the lower deck
of the balé, where there is also a toilet and an outdoor
shower.
The two bedrooms are accessed by stepping
stones bridging a fish pond, which is stocked with koi fish
and features a small fountain bubbling over an urn. Each
air-conditioned bedroom is a mirror image of the other
characterized by a protruding bay window with a cushioned
window seat overhanging the fish pond. Each bedroom also
features a cool terrazzo floor, local artwork and a canopied
queen-size four-poster bed. A bold aquamarine wall adds a
splash of colour, sliding glass doors allow the cool breezes
to permeate and ceiling fans provide additional comfort. A
fitted cupboard houses a safe deposit box, a chest of drawers
and ample hanging space. More glass doors lead from each
bedroom into the en-suite garden bathrooms; almost identical,
each is set within a private walled courtyard complete with a
rustic table and seat. ‘His and hers’ washbasins with
freestanding circular mirrors rest on upon sheltered terrazzo
washstands, which are lit by pendulous lanterns and garnished
with mother of pearl sea shells. Each garden bathroom is
planted with shrubs, trees and bamboo; guests will enjoy
bathing under the stars in the large terrazzo tub. The shower
is tucked under the eaves of the roof and surrounded by
stylish black terrazzo. The toilet is hidden in a recess.
A connecting door links Villa 3 to Villa 2,
providing a four-bedroom facility, if required.
